History
YMCA OF the prairie in Lexington
In 2007, community leaders in Lexington, Nebraska, met with the idea of developing a community recreation center. After much research, they decided the the YMCA had the history, support and model to best fit what the community needed. In 2009, the YMCA of Lexington was recognized as a Branch Association by the YMCA of the USA. In 2010, the YMCA converted a former library at 103 E. 10th St. into a temporary exercise facility. In October of 2012, Lexington leaders broke ground on a new YMCA facility that is attached to the Lexington Middle School. Orthman Community YMCA officially opened its doors on October 20, 2014.
When you join the Y, you’re coming together with men, women and children from your community who are committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Become part of a community committed to help you learn new things and make new friends at any stage of your life.

We believe that everyone deserves a Y, so the YMCA of the Prairie offers financial assistance to individuals and families who might otherwise not be able to afford membership or program fees.
